- 1 cup soft butter
- 1/2 cup good shortening
- 3 cups sugar
- 6 eggs
- 3 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- pinch salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
Beat butter and shortening until well blended. Add sugar gradually and continue beating
Add eggs one at a time
Mix flour, powder and salt
Mix vanilla into milk
Add flour to mixture, alternating with the milk, ending with the flour.
Put into your prepared pan – customarily it is a large 10 cup tube pan, also known as an angel food pan.
Bake at 325 for about 60-80 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.
Cool in pan for 10 minutes or more and then turn out onto a cooling rack.
- 1 cup confectioners sugar
- 2 tbsp. lime juice (preferably key lime but regular lime juice can be used)
Mix until smooth and drizzle over cake. Let glaze set for about one hour before serving.
