- 2 tbsps dry yeast
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tsps salt
- 3 eggs
- 4-1/2- 5 cups flour
Mix the yeast into 1/2 cup of warm water and set aside to proof
In a saucepan, combine the sugar, shortening, milk and salt and heat until the shortening is all melted. Pour mixture into a bowl and let cool to room temp.
In the shortening mixture, put 1-1/2 cups of the flour and mix well. Add the yeast and then the eggs and mix well till smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour’to make a not too soft dough. Please in a greased bowl, cover and let rise about 1-1/2 hours. Punch down and let rest about 5 minutes
Form dough into small balls and put 3 in each compartment of a well buttered muffin pan. Let rise till double. Brush generously with butter.
Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy warm!
